CDC Identifies Lyme Disease As Potential Bioterrorism Agent
By Randy Sykes, 11/19/05
Authors Note: The NIAID has changed
there web page and removed Lyme Disease as a potential agent of bioterrorism as of 12/01/05 in the Frequently Ask
Question section, question number 10: Are NIAID scientists already studying potential agents of bioterrorism?
Before 12/01/05: Lyme Disease is a potential bioterrorism agent
After 12/01/05: Lyme Disease is not a potential bioterrorism agent
Compare the two: Lyme Disease is and is not a potential bioterrorism agent
..............................
For Lyme disease to be considered by most medical doctors as an easily treatable and curable disease - it sure
is partnered with some very serious bacterial agents in a new bioterrirism lab opening in San Antonio,TX reported
by MSNBC . Notice the comment from the CDC, "The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention identified these
diseases as potential bioterrorism agents" - pretty strong statement considering they say Lyme disease is
cured in 14 - 21 days.
In addition to the CDC, The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) which is part of the
National Institutes of Health (NIH) are studying Lyme disease at Fort Detrick, Maryland research facility. In the
Question and Answer section of this web document, pay particular attention to question number 10: Are
NIAID scientists already studying potential agents of bioterrorism?
We can only hope that none of these diseases get out of this building or any other biohazard lab in the country
and all biosafety and biosecurity protocols are in place.
